Motion Turns It On

Forget whatever impressions you have about instrumental post-rock. Houston, Texas’ Motion Turns It On is going to take your preconceived notions and flip them on their ear. For these four Texas lads, emotion isn’t expressed with vowels and consonants; it’s expressed with melody and structure, fitting somewhere between instrumental math rock and psychedelic grooves. Their debut EP, Rima, is available now.

Rima is MTIO’s manifesto, but is in no way a final draft of who the band is musically. Ever adapting and growing, Motion Turns It On has been experimenting with the addition of trumpets and samples along with the tiniest smattering of vocals, adding new dimensions to an already multi-dimensional band.

An east coast tour to support Rima is in the works for the fall. Past shows have included bills with bands as lauded as Tristeza, The Paper Chase and The Advantage, so it’s fair to say that Motion Turns It On aren’t just making splashes in the shallow end, they’re making waves in an ocean.
